October 2015: Bali to Start an Indonesian Adventure
An excellent start to a dive trip. I had been to Bali before for a DFL trip, but never made it outside the resort other than on dive excursions. This time we saw it from street level, on a motorbike, weaving through traffic and lane splitting like a local pro. A little scary at first, but a great way to learn how to get around in Denpaser, Kuta, and Seminyak. And a great way to get out to some of the places to see. Highly recommend Uluwatu, a cliff-side temple above a beautiful surfer beach, Ubud with rice terraces, the volcanoes, and the monkey forest, and Tanah Lot, another seaside temple. With the motorbike we found other spots not really on the tourist routes.
The dollar is quite strong so everything is quite reasonably priced. We stayed for less than $25 a night, rented a motorbike for under $5 a day, and had lots of beach restaurant dinners for under $15. If you come, try to find 707 at Batu Belig beach for a sunset drink, then down the beach at Warung Pantai or Cantina for dinner.
